Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Yukon Find (“we”, “us”) collects, why, and how it is handled. We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). We collect as little as we can to run a local marketplace, and we do not sell personal information or run advertising trackers.

1. What we collect

Account: your name (or display name), email address, and a password (stored only as a cryptographic hash — we cannot see it). Seller profiles: the profile details you choose to publish, including a general location (e.g. neighbourhood) and listing photos. Verification: if you request the Verified Yukoner badge, the phone number you verify by SMS. Messages: conversations you have with other users through the in-app inbox. Boost payments: payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number — we keep only the payment reference, amount, and status. Usage: basic listing view counts and server logs (IP address, browser type) kept for security and debugging.

2. What we use it for

To operate your account and listings; to deliver messages between buyers and sellers; to send transactional email (account actions, password resets, unread message notifications); to verify sellers who request it; to process boost payments; to moderate the marketplace and investigate reports; and to keep the Service secure. We do not send marketing email without your separate consent.

3. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

4. Where your data lives and who processes it

Our database and uploaded photos are hosted in Canada (Supabase, ca-central-1 region). Some processing happens with service providers that may store or process data in the United States: Vercel (website hosting), Stripe (payments), Twilio (SMS verification), and Mailtrap (email delivery). These providers act on our instructions, and information handled outside Canada may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

5. What other users can see

Your public seller profile, listings, photos, general location, badges, and reviews are visible to anyone. Your email address and phone number are never displayed publicly; buyers contact you through the in-app inbox unless you choose to share contact details yourself.

6. Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. If you close your account, or ask us to delete it, we remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except records we must keep (e.g. payment records for tax purposes) and content others reasonably rely on (e.g. an anonymized review). Password reset links expire after 60 minutes and are single-use.

7. Your rights

You may ask to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, withdraw consent, or ask questions about this policy. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

8. Children

The Service is intended for adults (19+, or use supervised by a parent or guardian). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date above and communicate the change through the Service.
